dita von teese and a tiny child

http://thesuperficial.com/2009/12/this_looks_appropriate.php

3 oversized cardboard books
1 rolling cart
1 giant stamp

postcards and another meeting?

POSTCARDS ARE HERE!
They are gorgeous and waiting to find new homes all around Baltimore!

Also, is everyone up for one last dance workshop next
Wednesday night? 10pm-midnight? We could probably definitely knock out that last half of Seaside Rendezvous!

I'll bring the box of postcards to the meeting if anyone wants to take any!!

MEETING MINUTES YAY

AMAZING meeting ladies! I sent a video to all of you on facebook with me counting 8-beats over the first half of the song, including the full instrumental part.

Here's da minutes in case you forgot (OMG I JUST FOUND OUT HOW TO DO BULLETED LISTS ON BLOGGER):

1. SEASIDE RENDEZVOUS
  • costume production: Elyza = bodysuits (four red, four navy, sparkly spandex), Sarah = flowery swim caps
  • set? do we still want to do some cardboard waves? like two identical ones? do we need them?
  • I sent to all of your facebooks a video I made of me counting 8-beats over the first half of the song, and I stopped it after the full instrumental part. The instrumental part goes for 10 eight counts. Mahla Pahkah- will you post your notes on the choreography?
  • another workshop? could y'all post your availabilities for the next two weeks and we can see if we can work on the dance one more time?
  • I honestly can not STOP practicing what we already have done!! I have probably done it over 30 times just this morning! It's so cute and so much fun and I'm SO PROUD OF US!!
2. TICKET TABLE
  • Marissa or Rachel, you said you could do this yah? Info on it should probably just be something like "The GalHaus Revue presents: THE BIG SHOW! 8 PM, tickets $5"
  • ask Nellie, Genya, and/or Maria if they would be willing to do it? Tickets go on sale at 4pm; show's at 8pm; we will also need 1-2 people at the doors to take/rip tickets. So maybe it will be good to have more than one or two people.
3. PROMOTION
  • as soon as I get the files from Justin, I'll print out the posters (how many do you think we'll need? we can also always print more after break) and order postcards.
  • PRESS RELEASE - Marla will write it up, deal with Events Office?
4. final write up on your act!!!
  • This NEEDS to be done ASAP. Once you are done with finals, get it all down and post it up here. It's important not just so you know what you're doing and what you need to make /practice over the break, but also so that Annie will know what our acts our like and how she can segway between acts.
  • What you need to write: SPECIFIC details of how the routine plays out; what your costume is, how they come off; any additional PROPS (and will they already be onstage?); post the youtube video of your song if possible; music cues (will you be on stage when the song starts? do you want the song to start and then you walk on?) any lighting cues (are you starting from black out? starting with all lights on? spot light? this information will also be necessary to pass on to the BBOX technicians).
Over break, PLEASE, it's important to keep up with the blog!! I'll do my best to send out e-mails if there's something SUPER important, but keep up with the blog and keep everyone updated on what you're up to over break. Post photos of your costume, any videos you might have of you practicing your routine. Find people to practice in front of (yikes) if you can, practice in front of the mirror, listen to the song over and over.

When we get back from break, you should be ready to practice, with your costume, with your music, in front of the group, and also other people. Seriously.

We will post up a rehearsal schedule once we find out the availability of the fitness center. But we DO have an already confirmed FULL DRESS REHEARSAL in the BBOX the night before, 1/29/2010, at 10 PM.

THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING!!!

ELYZA!

Dance Workshop

Don't forget, we have a dance workshop this Sunday 12/6 from 8:00-10:00pm in the Fitness Center Studio in the Meyerhoff!

It was pretty steamy in there last time so dress for the occasion.

Please bring developed ideas for your routines, we have very few rehearsals after break and this is our LAST official meeting before finals and the holiday. Also, feel free to ask questions about costumes/prop construction.

trixie and monkey's visit

At the Trixie & Monkey talk, a couple things really stood out to me and I think would be useful for us as performers:

1. a "change" or arc in an act: Trixie was describing how in a lot of their acts they try to include a change from the beginning to the end. Example is her mermaid strip, where she starts out with a mermaid tail and ends up stripping off the tail and becoming a woman that can walk, or like her flea circus act where she is running a flea circus but in the process of losing her fleas, she has to remove all her clothes to find them. I think she made a good point with this since having an arc or a change or a story to the act makes it more dynamic and more interesting to watch.

2. thinking about AUDIENCE: Trixie & Monkey also talked about how they constantly think about the audience and how valuable performing in front of an audience of peers is. The way an audience reacts to different parts of the act can be extremely helpful in deciding what parts to play up, what parts to play down. We should probably schedule sometime in January when we're all back to have some of our own friends or some kind of small audience to a "preview" of sorts, which would basically be a dress rehearsal, just so we can get that kind of honest feedback Trixie and Monkey were talking about.

I had to leave the talk early though...any one else that was there, do you have anything else to add?

Trixie Little and the Evil Hate Monkey at MICA

This email was forwarded to Marla, Elyza, and I from student activities a few hours ago. Hopefully some of you will randomly check this before 1:00!

Over the Thanksgiving Break a wonderful visiting artist
opportunity was organized for my Elements class, tomorrow the 30th,
M221 at 1:00PM.

Trixie Little and the Evil Hate Monkey will be coming to my class to perform
and share about their performance work. They are burlesque circus performers
and famous in Baltimore -- often referred to as an Acrobatic Super Duo. In
our class they going to perform "Cirque,"
their parody on Cirque de Solei.

I want to invite members of the MICA Burlesque Troupe but do not have their
contact info.

As last minute as this is -- could you pass this info on to them.

Thanks,
Kirsten D'Andrea Hollander

Videophone

...so, this is Beyonce in a Bettie Page weave (fast forward to 2:52)

Also, as much as I LOVE both Beyonce and Lady Gaga...seriously, why the fuck is this song about a video phone? The song kind of sucks. In my opinion, it's a wasted opportunity for a Gaga/Beyonce collaboration.

Ladies in Lingerie

The Victoria's Secret Fashion show is on December 1st. If anyone would like to come over to Meyerhoff 424 and watch it on our tiny television, you are more than welcome! We might even try to finagle a larger screen from a neighbor because this is IMPORTANT!

Galhaus in MICArotica

I spoke with Allison from MICArotica and gave her our burlesque names and a small blurb on The Big Show to print in the first issue. It is scheduled to be out just after Thanksgiving break. I believe she said the layout of our photos covers 8 pages! This group shot will be included.

Cute!

General updates

Hey guys-

Since the semester is winding down and we didn't have a meeting this past Sunday and probably won't have one this coming Sunday, I thought we could just have a general updates post, so everyone is on the same page:

1. Justin Lloyd and Annie Wu will be designing our poster for us! I should be hearing from them within a week, I asked for it to be done by the beginning of December. Once they send us the design, we'll order postcards and print out posters.
2. We had a limited attendance at the costume workshop. If you have any questions or need any advice or suggestions for your costume/how to make it/etc, POST IT HERE!
3. Annie Wu will also be emcee-ing the show for us! She is going to be taking on a lounge singer persona.
4. There is one more dance workshop scheduled for December 6. We will have the room in the fitness center from 8-10pm.
5. Maybe in lieu of a final meeting as we had discussed (since a lot of people were opposed to staying after finals), we make it mandatory for everyone to post on the blog where they are with their act/costume?

Lingerie collection photoshoot

Hi ladies-

So di[e]ce boutique is putting out a line of lingerie for early next year and Shabdiece (owner/my boss) is looking for models for the photo shoot. From what I understand, the shoot will be used in advertising for the store. She plans on doing the shoot sometime in December - she said maybe the last week of December, or maybe earlier, but definitely in December. Shabdiece said she'd definitely be interested in using any of the fine mica burlesque troupe ladies if they are interested.

If you think you may be interested (we're making sweet vintage inspired lingerie from vintage clothing in the store), let me know what your availability for the month of December.

-ELYZA

PS. Marla-Joe from gutter magazine is going to be the photographer.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas

...IS ENTIRELY ON HULU.

Dolly Parton has like 3-5 costume changes in the first song she sings. Thank god.

Also includes the gayest musical number by a bunch of college footballers who are on their way to a brothel.

Also also there is a great scene where the ladies start taking off their ball gowns and wave the skirts around their heads.

Gaga in McQueen

3:30. The armadillo shoes and sparkle outfit are a bit reptilian... Elyza... she also wears a faux polar bear cape thing.

Costume Workshop 11/15

Costume Workshop! Sunday, 11/15
8-10PM
Marla's studio, Bank 230

You MUST bring some sketches for what you want your final costume to be! Once we see the sketches, everyone can pitch in as to where to buy or how to make the various parts. Also, knowing what your costume will be will directly inform how to choreograph your routine.

Also bring any swatches of fabric/trim that you plan on using (or something similar that we can try to match) or any pieces that you have already made!

See you then!

sexysexysexy!

I think this is it.

There's also this kind of great but makes me feel dirty for liking it cover of it by Shivaree that really succinctly takes out a lot of the 80s synth and smooshes all the verses closer together. It has a more stripper-beat to it, but then again I kind of like the 80s synth happening in Rick James's version:

Songs!

I've decided on a song! here it is:

Also, some songs about skin for Elyza:

Skin Feeling - Crowded house
Skin Trade - Duran Duran
I've Got You Under my Skin - Frank Sinatra (among others)
Skin Tight - The Ohio Players (and my favorite on this list!)
Skins - The Scissor Sisters

Dance Workshop!

We have a meeting this Sunday, November 8th from 8-10pm!

This is scheduled to be a dance workshop so it will be held at the Fitness Center Studio in the basement of the Meyerhoff. (If you've never been down to the Fitness Center, you take the elevator that's inside the cafeteria by the dish return and what not.)

While I personally have these things called vertebrae and can't maneuver like the Ross Sisters (see post below),so we can all help each other struggle through the coordination part of The Big Show! Also, feel free to bring costume ideas and questions since the first costume workshop was cancelled due to the Halloween Lantern Parade.

Here's my favorite dance number EVER to get you in the mood...

A little inspiration for outrageous burlesque costume making courtesy of Martha Stewart and some outrageous baby Halloween costumes.

JOANN'S

I'm going to Joann's this Sunday (11/1), probably around 11 AM-ish. I have a 20% off total purchase coupon, so we could put all our stuff together and save da money.

Any takers? You leave comment or text me, yes.

edit: I also just got a 50% off one regular-priced item. This is handy if you plan on buying one expensive thing.

Also, if you google "Joann's printable coupons" you can most likely find a 40% off single item coupon.

Costume workshop = CANCELLED!

howdy y'all,
The workshop originally planned for tomorrow evening in my studio is canceled because I want to go to the Halloween parade. Any questions about costumes and you can email me! Sorry, it's just too fucking awesome to miss.

Shark!

So, Tiff and I found this at Target today. We purchased it.

Performance Lineup

hey girlies!

As things stand, here are some details about the way The Big Show is going to go down:

Time & Place: 8:00pm, B-Box, Jan. 30, 2010
MC: Annie Woo

Performance Order:
1. Marla & Elyza: Giant Pasties
2. Sarah: Fire Fan Dance
3. Cait: Snow Princess
4. Marla: Sexy Librarian
5. Elyza: Lizard Molt
{Intermission}
6. Rachel & Marissa: Baking & Tassel Twirl-Off
7. Katie: Parasol Dance
8. Tiff: Constellations
9. Group/Finale: Seaside Rendezvous

Peeps we need: stripper cleanup/removal! Maybe Nellie would want to do this? This person would come in after the acts and pick up the garments. Also would prepare any props for upcoming acts. Must be in costume of some sort.

Lizard molt Song Suggestion

Perhaps a bit too political lyrically... but I think "Some Like it Hot" by Dennis Brown could work. It feels molt-y to me.

I'm still thinking about our baker and librarian.

There's going to be a meeting this Thursday, 10/22 at 10:05 PM at Elyza's house (1513 Park Ave, apt 3). We'll be discussing poster design for The Big Show, meetings/workshops/rehearsals/deadlines for the rest of the semester, also brainstorming for our group act to Seaside Rendezvous.

Meeting/Movie Night

HEY! Could I actually hear back from anyone if they want to do this? If it's only a couple of people, I'll just cancel.

Also, I changed the time from 8:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

Hi y'all:

So we're due again for a bi-weekly meeting on Sunday, but seeing as it's fall break and some people may be out of town, let's keep it light. Movie night at my house! 7:30 PM. I'll see if I can get "Lady of Burlesque", written by Gypsy Rose Lee, starring Barbara Stanwyck.

Bring blankets or pillows and goodies for eats and drink!

RSVP in the comments!

Thursday, October 15, 2009

Name: Magnolia Whisk

Song: There's going to be two- a quicker song for the beginning of the act, (the baking portion), and then something slower, perhaps candy by big maybelle?

Act theme: Baking

I'm going to be baking something, and having a really hard time getting my shit together. I'll be wearing some kind of of house dress, and an apron, and as i asset mble ingredients i'm going to spill flour and sugar on myself, and remove my outer garmets. There will be suggestive egg cracking, and i'll move to something slower, so really, it's very simple baking and stripping.
THEN Rachel is going to bust in to my kitchen, and demand that i give her my baked goods, i'll say no, and then pull out my GIANT WHISK and beat her with it. she'll challenge me to a tassle off and we will DUEL. I want to make pasties with tiny whisks to spin.

Mid term Proposal

Name:TBD
Song: I Feel It All (instrumental) or My Moon My Man-Feist. suggestions are more than welcome!

Act: Constellation themed. Character is stargazing with a person (the audience) , is upset that they cannot identify any constellations and offers to "educate" them. As I strip the costumes underneath will have different constellations on them. There will be small battery powered LED lights involved!

For those staying for Fall Break

http://www.creativealliance.org/events/eventItem1910.html

Name

I'm thinking "Dolly Longlegs" (like daddy longlegs) as a name. Thoughts?

Midterm Report

Name: Heavens TaBetsy

Costume: Three levels of outfit, the walking onto the stage outfit (some manner of cutoffs, cowboy boots, tied up gingham or flannel shirt), the middle outfit (cartooned above, the underbra and brown suede panties) and the under-under outfit (black fringe panties and pasties). The boots don't come off.

Music: entrance music= good bad and ugly, act music= remains to be seen

Act: interrupt Marissa's baketease, silently instigate trouble, mime a confrontation, mime challenge to a duel, take ten paces and strip to pasties, NIPPLETASSEL TWIRL-OFF.

shazam.

Monday, October 12, 2009

Marla Proposal

Name: Scarlett Let-her

Act theme: Sexy Librarian
Song: TBD
Librarian comes onto stage carrying giant books. Produces giant date stamp and begins the arduous task of checking in all the books. Wipes sweat off brow, then takes a closer look at the giant stamp. With interest begins stamping on her body, revealing more as she stamps. Possibly ends up sprawled across the giant books, covered in stamps.
Name: Dixie D'Vamp
Song: Light the Match - Mirah
Theme: FIRE! ACCORDIONS!
Act: Fan dance!

Mid Term

Still working on a name

Song: Baby It's Cold Outside - i think i'm gonna do the Margaret Whiting & Johnny Mercer version

I'm thinking more traditional stuff as well. So starting with a huge fur coat, and basically everything will be fur lined. Think snow princess. I still have to work out the details, but you get the idea.

Sunday, October 11, 2009

Mid term report

Name: Dee Flowers
Song: Pennies from heaven by Billie Holiday
Act: Sooooo after much thought I think I'm going to be sticking with a more traditional burlesque act. I'm thinking of using a parasol like so and doing a strip with that. I know I'll be wearing a corsett and pasties, elbow length gloves, and I'm still deciding on and outfit or possibly just a jacket to wear over that. I think for future shows I'll start branching out into more of a character but as of right now I'm waaaay in love with traditional burlesque sort of Dita von Teese inspired.

-Katie

Midterm Report: Group Act to Seaside Rendezvous

More of a "choreographed dance with delightful costumes and hilarity ensuing with ridiculous props" then "stripstripstrip". Also, it'd probably be best to delegate responsibilities/costume making throughout the group, so we can discuss that at the next meeting or something.

costume spandex rompers (I will flat pattern and grade the sizes up out the romper Cait and I have from American apparel); floral bathing caps

props inner tubes, flippers, perhaps some light movable scenery that we could animate in the form of cardboard waves.

choreographyMaybe 1-2 people could come up with basic choreography/storyboard that we would then fine tune as a group. Perhaps at one point, half of the girls could be the "seaside" and the other half could be wooing the "seaside" ladies? Whenever you stroll along with me....

Comment with ideas and suggestions and I will add to the report!

Elyza's Midterm Report: Molting Strip

molting strip (what an ecydsiast, har har!)
So for my act, I was inspired by a bolt of fabric at Joann's (and by Rachel's kick ass suggestion). This fabric was kelly green, with a shiny, lamé-like reptilian scaly print. And it was stretchy.

costume In order of appearance: a bodysuit engineered to come off in pieces (sleeves, bodysuit, leggings) when I peel or "molt" them off. Green press on nails/perhaps some kind of elbow length glove situation, with claws at the end. Lizardy bikini, with a tail attached to the back of the bottom. A large lizard head, perhaps. I'm open to suggestions as for the neck-up portion of the costume. Ideally, I envision a large lizard head with eyes that can move independently of each other. This seems incredibly difficult, but definitely worth the effort. Maybe Cait could have some inside info on building headdresses from her experiences at nana projects. Oh! Maybe I can put my hair in a mohawk and paint my face green. Endless possibilities.

props a large rock to lounge on, and a large, proportional heating lamp. The rock could be maybe a large bean bag that I could stuff with some more batting to make it a little firmer, also recover in felt or something cheap and grey to make it rock like. As for the heat lamp, maybe use a large floor lamp or make a ridiculous looking one w/ paper mache. Man, we need an intern.

Still need to find appropriate music.

Another SVA meeting...

Hi. There's another SVA meeting that we're required to send one representative to on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 - 2:30-4 p.m., Main 110. Karol also put this note in her e-mail: "I noticed that at our last meeting a few students left early or came very late; this is not acceptable. Your organization attendance will not be counted if you leave/arrive halfway through the meeting" so...if you do want to leave halfway, be discreet and don't let Karol catch you.

Who can do it?

1. MICArotica is a new publication. They are trying to publish their first issue by the end of October which will feature stories, photos, illustrations, a sextrology column, and sexual health/advice. They hope to put out a second issue by the end of the semester. MICArotica is a FREE publication!
2. We would LOVE to do a Galhaus calendar fundraiser in collaboration with MICArotica later in the year. Perhaps as a spring semester fundraiser after The Big Show.
3. We may have a large spread in the second issue of MICArotica with character profiles to promote The Big Show.
4. For the first issue we are planning a small photo shoot and accompanying article to generate some buzz about the troupe.

PHOTO SHOOT details (check back before Thursday to see if anything has changed)
1. MICArotica will provide the photographer. Pictures will be printed in black and white.
2. Bring clip lights if you have them or fancy lights if we can get them.
3. Come in costume and makeup if you can. There is not a specific theme other than sexy.
4. The shoot is happening at MARLA'S APARTMENT 1600 Park Ave.
5. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8 at 10:00pm!

We are still holding the midterm session. There will not be an official meeting, but please post your ideas, music, costume, etc. here at the Galhaus Revue blog. We need to make sure everyone is getting ready for The Big Show on January 30th!

Meeting

Mollie says the MICArotica crew should be free this weekend to meet with us if we want. Should I just see if they want to come to the meeting this sunday? Is everybody cool with that?

FIXED

Fuck

I just realized i spelled our name wrong on the fucking thing.

...oh well.

So I made this flyer. Feel free to print it and slap it up wherever!

PASTRIES & PASTIES reminders

Hi! So here is the shift schedule again:

10:30 - 12:00 (set up) = MARLA & SARAH
12 - 2 = KATIE & MARIA
2 - 4 = MARISSA & RACHEL

as well as the baked goods sign up:

Marissa: scones
Elyza: cupcakes
Cait: gluten-free cupcakes
Sarah: chocolate chip cookies
Katie: cheesecake brownie
Rachel: Snickerdoodles

REMEMBER! All baked goods need to be wrapped individually for the sale.

Student Activities should have ready for us a cash box w/ seed money to make change, a table, and two chairs. I have a table cloth that we can use! It's just a plain-ish white one though, if anyone has a more fabulous one, we could certainly use that.

Oops

Totally forgot to mention this last night. I talked to Mollie Little about MICArotica, and she is totally into working with us. She said she'd like to do a few publications this semester, but it may just be the one. So the question is, Do we want to try to get something in before the Big Show, to advertise? Or would we rather do a post-show thing next semester?

Also, any ideas for what we would like to do? Maybe a little info about burlesque/why we do it/who we are, and then some photos?

articles on burlesque

Here's a recent-ish article on the neo-burlesque movement: The big tease: Burlesque grows in popularity

Updates after our meeting w/ Kel & Karol

We just submitted an Event Request Form to have "The GalHaus Revue presents: The Big Show" on Saturday, January 30th, 2010.

At our meeting with Kel and Karol, Kel basically made it very clear that a show in BBOX this semester just wouldn't be possible, let alone one show this semester AND a show next semester. Kel agreed with us that Falvey would definitely be way too big of a venue for our show. This seems to be our best option - further into the semester, a lot of events get going and the first two weekends into the semester were open, so we chose the later one.

We were also told that in order to have a show at BBOX, we need a person to be a stage manager, one person to be a tech person, and at least two people to run doors. I think this will be manageable between members in the group/people interested in being involved but not performing. Kel also said he could suggest some people as far as tech goes and stuff.

Having one show this year may make more sense for us anyways, since we are still starting out. We'll have more time to prepare, more workshops, more rehearsals. Midterm is still the same date, though.

Meeting Minutes, 9/20

Hi:

1. Fundraiser ("Pastries & Pasties") is Monday, October 5th, 11 AM - 4 PM. Below is a schedule of time slots for manning the table, please sign up for a slot to work. We're aiming for two girls at the table at a time, but of course, more are welcome.

10:30 - 12:00 (set up) = MARLA & SARAH
12 - 2 = KATIE & MARIA
2 - 4 = MARISSA & RACHEL

Here are baked goods assignments that we talked about at the meeting:
Marissa: scones
Elyza: cupcakes
Cait: gluten cupcakes
Sarah: chocolate chip cookies
Katie: cheesecake brownie

Everyone should try to make at least two pasties each. Easy peasy. Any left over pasties/pasties we continue making over the semester we can sell at the boutique I work at (and we can also get away with pricing them higher at the boutique!)

2. THE BIG SHOW: We're aiming for the weekend before Thanksgiving (Friday 11/21 or Saturday 11/22). We're also aiming for the BBOX, but our only other option is probably Falvey. I know, I know, it's big and scary, but we can do it if we have to.

ALSO: Because venues are booking fast, we had to decide our spring date. It's April 24. We will update with what venue we have.

3. MID TERM: Your midterm reports are due 10/11. You need to have prepared in a blog post (since it's likely not everyone will be able to make a physical meeting):
-description of your proposed performance.
-description of your costume & any related props.

This mid term is just to really really really make sure that anyone who is performing knows what they're doing and what they need to make before the performance.

4. SVA MEETING: Sarah has delightfully volunteered to be the GalHaus Revue representative at the SVA meeting this Wednesday. That's 9/23, 2:30pm, Main 160

5. Next general meeting: 10/4 @ Marissa's apartment at the Avalon. 1701 Linden, 2B.

MEETING Sunday, Sep. 20

Y'all,

It's time for another meeting. Sarah and I just had a fruitful meeting with Karol at Student Activities and we have information to share and discuss!

I can host again. 7:00 pm, 1513 Park Ave, apt 3. I think I still have those beers Marla brought over in a plastic bag. I encourage you to bring light snacks and beverages.

Gilded Lily Halloween Show

Last night at Dr. Sketchy's the announcement was made that Gilded Lily will be hosting an event on October 31st I believe at Load of Fun. Halloween + burlesque = amazingness. There isn't any official information out about this event, so expect an update in the near future.

Speaking of Dr. Sketchy's, it takes place every 1st and 3rd Monday at the Wind Up Space. 3ish hours of life drawing for $7 is not too shabby. PLUS, there was fringe and top hats and free shots for silly contest winners!

MICArotica

Alex mentioned he was talking to Mollie Little, who is the one starting up the MICArotica publication, and The GalHaus Revue came up. Mollie said she's be interested in maybe featuring us in one of their magazines! I'll talk to Elle Perez about it when I see her on wednesday (she's dating Mollie, and maybe she could take photos of us, she is AWESOME). But yeah, how do you all feel about that? I'll let you know when I find out more =)

In Case you didn't Know Already... Annie Sprinkle Lecture

Annie Sprinkle is less a burlesque star a more a, uh, well, she did some porn and got a Ph.D and is a performance artist and what not now. Girl could cinch a waist back in the day though. Anyway, she'll be speaking in the BBOX on Wednesday the 16th at 2:30pm and there will be a performance piece afterward. The program is titled:
My Life as a Feminist Porn Activist: An Intimate, Informal Show and Tell Evening with Annie Sprinkle, Ph.D
Should be sexy. PLUS, my very introverted, neanderthal-looking cousin interned at the Library of Congress this summer and gave the very Annie Sprinkle a tour and glimpse into the back archive of burlesque footage so we can all lolz about the potential interaction of these two:

Resources

SUPPLIES
eBay: an obvious place to check for cheap bulk supplies. True story: 100 yds of single-strand gold sequins for $15. That's $0.15/yd, compared to most fabric stores retail of $0.70/yd.
A Fabric Place: The only other fabric store I know around here aside from Joann's.
